Domingo Esteso (1882-1937) originally trained with the luthier Manuel Ramirez ( 1 ). Having set up his own work shop in Madrid, he later nurtured his nephews with the name Conde.
There are letters of authenticity from Julio Conde from the Gravina 7 address in Madrid, who retained the instrument for many years in the family.
The influence of Ramirez is apparent in this beautiful guitar. It is a classical although it has golpe plates as well. The craftmanship is second to none. The sound is magical, sweet, balanced, round and very sensitive. Not a modern quick loud attack but very beautiful. The neck is comfortable and easy to play due the 655 scale.
There are two repaired cracks to the back, expertly cleated by luthier Stephen Frith. He also set the guitar up and the neck and action are as to be expected. The lines in the polish either side of the fretboard are due to shrinking and not structual cracks. Light does not show through.
The original machines are stunning and in good working order.
This a very rare guitar in excellent condition and a true investment being a fine playable part of guitar history. We have seen some being sold for a lot more than our asking price.
