The Dutch luthier Bert Kwakkel, has been making guitars since 1971.The guitar became a popular instrument in the Kwakkel-family as his four brothers all learnt to play. So Bert decided to build his first guitar. Eight years later he left his job as a draughtsman and become a full-time luthier. Today at 70, he still builds with total commitment. Guitarists from all over the world praise his exceptional craftsmanship such as Kai Nieminen, Julian Byzantine and Alan Neave.

Younger players including Sean Shibe, Amanda Cook and Ian Watt, have all performed on Kwakkel guitars. But it is the renouned concert guitarist John Mills who really championed the instruments and this very guitar was his own concert instrument from construction in 1992 to 2016. There is a letter in the case from John Mills, explaining the reason for his original order and the exceptional violin like flamed maple back and sides.

The guitar has recently undergone a full service from Stephen Frith. The set up and fret work is now as new and very comfortable to play.

The sound is strong, colourful and balanced, being a true concert instrument well capable of filling the largest halls.

The condition is excellent with only one small mark to the back of the neck and minor players marks to the top. Viewing is highly recommended!
