JUST SOLD David Rubio is considered to be one to the greatest British luthiers of the 20th century. Having spent time in early life as "Jose' Rubio in New York, he returned to the UK making guitars and lutes for Julian Bream and then settling in Oxford. He remained in Duns Tew until his death in 2000. He mentored a number of other young luthiers including Paul Fischer, Kazuo Sato and EB 'Bryn' Jones. This guitar was made and signed by Edward Jones in the the Rubio workshop. It was made in his last year in the workshop as he moved to his own in Steeple Aston in north Oxfordshire in 1979. Edward Jones now has a considerable reputation which has resulted in a world-wide clientele with his instruments being played in over 20 different countries.
This example is special due to its exceptional almost mint condition. The woods are of the highest quality and the the David Rubio 'plantia' and rosette are stunning.
The sound is matured, sweet, clear and balanced and very comfortable to play. The last owner obviously treasured this guitar. It has ben re-fretted at some point and there is plenty of life left in them.
This guitar must be viewed to fully appreciate.
Comes with original West Davies hard case and a letter from EB Jones. £3995.00
