J. Guiot (1840)
The French Guiot bothers (J & A) settled in London (1830-1850) and built guitars in the fashion of the Louis Panormo school of lutherie. It is said, they worked for sometime in the Panormo workshop in London (probably Greek St).
This partiular guitar is actually built to the design of Roundloff and is in excellent playing condition. It is clearly signed and dated by hand inside.
The decorations are beautiful, as can be seen from the elegant pearl inlays.
The machines with original ivory buttons still work as new! The sound is clear and sweet and could be used for those wishing to play 19th century guitar music on an authentic instrument.
There have been repairs over the years, yet the guitar is in a secure condition and has been checked in side and out. There is a repaired crack to one side which is closed. Only one pearl has been replaced to the bridge and a new set of bridge string pins in style. One fret has been replaced.
We have a large file of pictures and a sound file...
